Azure Ray - Echo Beatty - James Husband @ 't Stuk, Leuven, February 7, 2011
In the heart of Leuven, Kunstencentrum 't Stuk offers an eclectic: movies, theater, exhibitions, dance performances, uiteraard, concerts.
Three names on the bill in this Monday in the shortest and the most cunning, as the first band the proposed site: James Higgins.
After fruitless searches in Google: a yoga teacher, a Scottish poet whose mutt is named Huck, a cricketer, a periodontist in New Zealand and 1540 other than Ohio JH nothing .... we cut the engine.
Vincent has unearthed nothing more, except a streaker who prevailed during the second round at Queen's in 1986.
8:40 p.m. ': it turns out that James Higgins on stage calls himself James Husband and further, that spouse is mixed: James Higgins or Huggins III (an ex Of Montreal) guitar / vocals and cellist Heather McIntosh, who has never shot with Gerard Oury.
You still am, Victor?
Heather and James are part of the backing band Azure Ray and heat the rooms during the European tour. This
nice duet we hazarding eight nice and fresh poppy tunes, slightly cheesy or soppy sentimentality tinged with naivete or exacerbated obsolete.
Butler loves Mary Poppins Julie Andrews, the Housemartins, Snow White, Dick Van Dyke, the Chupa Chups in coca marshmallows and musicals from the fifties. Some
Titles: 'Window' - 'While the boys went down under' - the formidale crooning 'I Do not Want To Set The World On Fire' version of the Ink Spots klein klein-kleuterke 'A grave in the Gravel' ....
Harmless and fun!
Echo Beatty
In November 2009 (Dolle Mol) that you make the acquaintance of Annelies Van Dinter, who at the time is assisted by Arne Van Petegem Styrofoam.
Conquered immediately!
In 2011, Echo is Annelies Beatty (vocals, guitar, organ, loopstation) and Jochem Baelus (drums, guitar, various percussion, zither, vibraphone, sound effects ...) rampant Sailors Beware also in tuning or People or Kuskessarma.
A new EP (after a demo recorded in 2008) is sold during the concerts 'Tiny organs of trust'!
'Tin Can Telephone "begins the set, indie atmospheric and minimalist, close to the world of Tiny Vipers or Soap & Skin. The beautiful, languid
'Transistory' sails on a blade alt.country vulnerable to Vic Chesnutt.
'All That Is not' born in a climate disturbing sounds tight, a few guitar chords and the beach is changing in calmer waters, melancholy and intimate.
'Montana' brings you to a comparison with other Antwerp fragile Blackie & the Oohoos. Even
approach slender, mysterious, poetic film. No
vulnerability with the following title, 'guest', a pounding martial atmosphere of tension frigid Mazzy Star PJ Harvey or lurk in the corner.
'Shiftin' lines of a nostalgic and introspective waltz will be closely followed by a final composition 'Big black hole' with your scary is somewhat mitigated by the use of an organ outdated and naive. Performance
appreciated.
Azure Ray
A resurrection: Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink had ended the band in 2004.
four solo albums for Maria Taylor you had the opportunity to see in concert at Bota in 2007.
Two solo effort and a plate with Orenda With Art in Manila, with another O + S (Orenda and Scalpelist).
Then in 2010, after a long silence, a new Azure Ray 'Drawing Down the Moon', and in early 2011, a European tour. The two superb
citizens of Birmingham, Alabama, are accompanied by a trio of multi-instrumentalists: the already named Heather (cello, bass) and James (mainly drums) + a guitarist / mandolinist gifted (Paul?).
No setlist and its not always optimal, but a clever mix of new songs and older works. The brown Siamese
n'eurent no difficulty to hypnotize the audience filling the student Stuk: sweet country ballads, laments desperate, sentimental ballads, dreampop shimmering, sublime harmonies .... devastatingly beautiful, to quote the English Laura Hughes.
A first country music, sung in unison and that girls do not use their guitar sets the tone.
The elegant 'Displaced', decorated with a Mediterranean mandolin, you cross the brain to be anchored in the depths of the muscle which sit emotions.
'Signs in the leaves' on the new CD, nostalgia for a lost love: And now
The Birds do not sing And
The trees do not speak And I do not see
Signs in the leaves
Anymore ... New
perfidious attack on your heart to falter.
'Do not leave my mind, sorry, in principle we use the delay, not possible here, our voices will echo chamber.
Orenda starts the next dramatic and poignant, Larraine ', the guitarist decorate sumptuous effects Ebow, while the cello is sweet.
A marvel of tenderness.
'These White Lights Will Bend To Make Blue a slow waltz aristocratic.
Angels, these young ladies. The sumptuous
lullaby 'Sleep' was used in the soundtrack of 'The Devil Wears Prada', not a breath in the audience just a slight glug glug, hops making its way into the throat of Vincent, eternal thirst. A new verse
sentimental 'Safe and sound', 'crystal clear voice is overused, okay, but if you're not happy, lily Louis-Ferdinand Celine.
Have you noticed that some plays rock and roll?
You kidding, Maria .... Slipknot, they are compared cloths that you release the punch.
'November' month in the spleen!
Miss Taylor behind the keyboards and Heather on bass for a three-time leading 'If you fall'.
Back to the sweetness and romance with murmurs "Raining in Athens', the brave James embellished a few lines of Hellenic melodica.
'On and on again a new stroke that you recover to' Drawing Down the Moon '.
Leuven, Our Last track tonight: the titletrack a CD of 2003, 'Hold on love'. We listen
Olaf, a fan of Osnabrück: There Is an anti-heroic quality of pastoral loneliness in Their Voices ...
Rainer Maria Rilke is not German, he was born in Prague, city part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the time. Olaf loves
Rilke and Azure Ray, he likes least Rammstein!
Leuven does not wake up or leave Maria and Orenda, we waited seven interminable years, girls, bis, bitte! You were
there, Olaf?
Ok, you play 'The drinks weekends drank last night'. A slide
lyrics and smooth vocals of false twin sisters: beautiful!
pintje A, Vincent?
A last drink for tonight!
